Porting a local number to Kall8

To port a local number to Kall8, submit the online Letter of Agency with the number, your current carrier, the account name and service address exactly as on your current bill, and a copy of that bill. Kall8 checks the details, files the port, and the number switches over on the scheduled date, usually within five to fourteen business days, with no port-in fee and no interruption.

Before you start

  • Get your latest bill from the current carrier. The business name, service address and account number on it must match the LOA exactly.
  • Make sure the account is current; carriers refuse ports on past-due or suspended accounts.
  • Note any PIN or port-out passcode the current carrier requires (common with wireless numbers).
  • Do not cancel the old service.

The steps

  1. Submit the LOA

Online, with the bill attached. Add your Kall8 account number if you have one, or choose a plan first.

  2. Kall8 checks and files

We verify the details against the carrier's records within a business day and submit the port request.

  3. The carrier responds

Accepted with a firm order commitment date, or rejected with a reason we help you fix. Typically two to ten business days.

  4. Port day

The number switches to Kall8, usually mid-morning Pacific. Set where it rings in the portal beforehand so it is live the moment it arrives.

  5. Cancel the old service

Once you have confirmed the number rings through Kall8.

What can go wrong

  • Name or address mismatch: the most common rejection. Use the bill, not what you think is on file.
  • Wrong account number or missing PIN: wireless carriers especially.
  • Number not portable: some rural exchanges and some VoIP-only numbers cannot move; we tell you before you wait.
  • Bundled numbers: if you port the main number on a multi-line account, the carrier may disconnect the rest. Tell us about every number on the account.

After the port

Forwarding rules, voicemail, recording and analytics work immediately. Texting on a ported local number needs 10DLC registration, which you can start while the port is in progress.

Toll-free numbers follow a similar process between Responsible Organizations and usually move in two to five business days. Start either on the transfer page.

Porting questions

No. The number stays with your current carrier until the port date, then switches to Kall8; there is no gap.

No. Canceling first can release the number and make it unportable. Cancel after the port completes.

The rejection names the reason (usually a name, address or account-number mismatch). Kall8 tells you what to correct and resubmits; there is no fee.

Usually yes; the contract is between you and the old carrier and may carry an early-termination fee on their side, but it does not block the port.
